Almost eight-tenths of a point. That is how much expected value Brock Purdy added per red-zone dropback through Week 6. The next qualifying quarterback was at 0.512. Start there. Then ask the harder question: how much of this survives when the situation stops helping him?

Top five of 32 qualifying QBs · minimum 15 red-zone dropbacks · 2026 Weeks 1–6 · Source: nflverse
Purdy’s 0.785 QB EPA per dropback came on 37 red-zone opportunities, with 10 passing touchdowns and no interceptions. Caleb Williams was next at 0.512 on 17. Purdy also had a positive play on 64.9% of those dropbacks.
EPA measures the change in an offense’s expected points after a play. The red zone is every qualifying dropback snapped at the opponent’s 20-yard line or closer. Sacks and scrambles count. This is more informative than dividing touchdowns by pass attempts, because failed passing plays stay in the denominator.
Even removing his single best red-zone play leaves Purdy at 0.677. That makes the early lead less dependent on one highlight. It does not make 37 plays a full season.
